Understanding disc injuries

Prolonged mechanical loading of the spine often times leads to annulus fibrosis microruptures. This results to disc degeneration where the extruded disc moves into the spinal canal and impinge on the adjacent nerve roots. Symptoms felt are sharp pain and muscle spasms at the site of the herniation. The sensation occurs only until such time the surrounding soft tissues are impinged.

The numbness may shoot down the sciatic nerve into the lower extremity. This inflammatory condition may also be associated with sciatica which is commonly caused by a herniated disc. You may notice that if you have sciatica, the resulting radiating leg pain may sometimes be greater than your low back pain.

The pain increases with prolonged sitting and leaning forward, coughing, sneezing and straining. This may make any person suffering from sciatica to walk in a slightly crouched position like it tends to lean away from the side of the lesion. The pain actually radiates down the distribution of the involved nerve root.

Herniated cervical and lumbar discs or slip discs

Herniated disc is inappropriately and commonly called as slipped disc by a lot of people but known as ruptured disc in the sports writer’s world. This is likely to be symptomatic because of the proximity of the spinal nerve roots. The pain is usually acute from the pressure on the longitudinal ligaments and local inflammation. Chronic pain results from the compression of the spinal nerve roots by the herniated disc.

The most common is the lumbago acute middle and low back pain. Approximately 95% of lumbar disc protrusions occur at L4-L5 or L5S1 levels. Muscle spasm and tense or increasingly cramped lumbar region are associated with the low back pain a patient feels. Further ischemia may occur and cause painful movements.

This may be gradually replaced by sciatica which is a pain in the lower back and hip that radiates down the back of the thigh into the leg. L5 or S1 are components of the sciatic nerve causing shooting pain down the lower limbs. Back muscles go into spasm as a response to inflammation of back structures. Spasms are sudden involuntary contraction of one or more muscle groups attended by cramps and pain producing involuntary movement and distortion.

Only the removal of the extruded part of the disc or the free fragment is seen to be the most possible relief to the pain intensity one’s feel. However risks of surgery may be localized as dural tear, wrong level exploration, hemorrhage, infection and nerve deficit. This is the very reason I did not undergo surgery besides the high medical cost that I am going to injure. After my neck operation of lymphangioma I noticed some changes in me. I doubt if I undergo back operation I would still be the same. As much as possible we deny the knife if we can still make it. We just don’t know what we are going to lose during the operation.

Promising cancer cure and genetic changes

Researchers were able to tracked 30 men suffering from low risk prostrate cancer who did not submit to conventional medical treatments like surgery, radiation or hormone therapy. The men were quite firm on their decision to make a major lifestyle change instead of submitting to conventional medical treatments. What they did was performed at least 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise like walking including meditation. Meditation has greatly helped them to manage their stress levels. Their diet was also composed of more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and soy products.

As expected they were successful in losing weight and had managed to lower their blood pressure for the past three months. The most intriguing find is the increased in their activity of disease preventing genes and the decrease or shut down of a number of their disease promoting genes.

I am happy to tell you guys that exercise is the cheapest and the most effective cancer preventing activity you can count on. Why not make this a healthy habit then? Find an exercise buddy and get on with your lifestyle change.

Refresh

We had a storm for two days and there was no electricity and water. This means I couldn’t work with my computer, no blogging and no research. God I felt so bored! I can feel my chronic back pain more just by lying at my bed with nothing to do. I over slept until I find it impossible to sleep anymore so at 4am dawn I was up and walking in my treadmill.

I discovered I cannot go more than 6 hours of sleep otherwise I’ll get lazy and tired. I miss my music and my writing too. Oh dear most of all I miss my early morning walk. But who dares walk on the street in the middle of a storm? And this is life without technology. This is life like you are too far in the world and living in the mountains – no computer, no internet, no TV, no electricity. My God…. This is torture!

Maybe I can live without a man or social life but I can’t live without my music, my blogs and my research. And funny how I can do all the work and be tired at the end of the day and just refresh myself by hearing the sound of water in my bathroom while taking my bath. The sound of the water is so refreshing. Feel like I need a good swim from a natural waterfall.

I got totally energized and refresh after two days of being out of nowhere in the middle of a storm. When the electric current went back, the first thing that I did was listened to my music while I read my emails and write my blogs. Music can do you good. And it is true, the thing that I have always been telling you before in my other blog that the best thing to counter chronic low back pain or any other pain is preoccupation. Get yourself preoccupied and you will less likely feel the pain rather than doing nothing.

My back felt worse for the two days that I have nothing to do and just lying around in bed. Of course I was afraid with the strong winds and the heavy rain. I can still hear the sound of my neighbor’s roof like it is going to get torn apart. I hate to see flying roofs so I closed my windows and just lie down staring at my ceiling. That was very unproductive but what can you do in the middle of a storm.

Now I am contented with my new LCD monitor making research listening to my music. It feels good to the eyes than the previous monitor. And the music keeps me humming too. I love technology. It surely makes me preoccupied and focus on other things other than my low back pain.

Boundaries and limitations

It’s true that boundaries in life aren’t meant to restrict us. They are there to help us stay balance in life. Let’s say my limitation is not to sit for long hours in front of my computer because it will naturally hurt my back more. I have a herniated disc and it could be very painful like you can’t sleep at night.

But then limitations must be consistent with your needs. For myself there are bills that need to be paid every month end so I distribute my work hours and work to my maximum limitations. This means testing my back to the maximum time I can contain with prolonged sitting.

Trying to cope up with my simple budget economics made me fill in work on every available time that I have. If I don’t have commitments then I simply write my blogs with the hope that I could earn from Adsense and the other ads published there. Lately I observed that I am wheezing a little. It’s been three days now that I observed I am likely to have my asthma attack again.

I understand I need to get back to my early morning walk. Do you ever get the feeling that you could just run freely with the fresh morning air and just hope that you won’t ever get back to where you once before? I always have that feeling. My limitation is that I can’t fly to where I can find peace and comfort in life. It takes a lot of dollars to fly to where you needed to be. In short we all need to take time off and recharge, refresh, rejuvenate or whatever combat stress related term you may call it.

Boundaries in life could be a major appreciation or a major frustration. In any way that you can make it work out for you, please do. We all need to be consistent with our physical activities or we will be treading downward with health and the recourse would be our bodies. Limits are limits, no matter what we do to earn, we will always end up spending what we earn to keep up with our health. What I mean is, there is not much meaning working hard to earn when we just end up spending it to be able to survive what we have done to our health in order to earn.

Darkened armpits

The harmful chemicals your deodorants contain as such as alcohol may cause your underarms to darken. Your skin reacts from the alcohol and causes discoloration of your armpits. Microabrasions caused by shaving or plucking is also one big issue to note. This practice sometimes even causes the appearance of ugly chicken skin on your darkened armpits. Ouch it feels like being murdered twice… darkened armpits and chicken skins!

Most dermatologists recommend peeling before bleaching darkened armpits. But the most common, effective and less expensive treatment our grandmothers and mothers would advise is to cut a lemon crosswise and then rub it straight on your armpits after your bath. Please don’t forget to remove the seeds for it might hurt your skin while doing the rub. Then put on powdered alum afterwards which may serve as your deodorant too. Laser hair removal could be a good option to help eliminate shaving but is costly. Try doing the lemon and alum rub first before spending money on anything.

Understanding dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is the controlled scraping of the top layers of the skin to remove scars from acne or accidents. This will tend to smooth out fine facial wrinkles such as those that we usually see around the mouth. Local anesthesia and a sedative are usually used during the procedure.

It involves the use of a high speed hand held rotary instrument with a rough wire brush or diamond impregnated burr. Afterwards the skin is treated with ointment, a wet dressing, a dry treatment or some combination. There is redness and swelling as well as some pain, tingling, burning or itching which can be controlled by medication. The side effects usually subside within a few days from treatment. Mechanical dermabrasion with either a diamond fraise or a wire brush is an effective tool in correction of deeper skin abnormalities like acne scarring.

Understanding plasma

Blood is a slightly sticky fluid that is composed of 55% plasma and 45% blood cells. Plasma is a yellow transparent fluid made of mostly water that contains small amounts of protein. Blood itself does not flow into the tissues but remains inside the blood vessels. Certain parts of the blood permeate through the capillary walls and into the tissue spaces. This interstitial fluid enters the lymphatic vessels called lymph. It consists mainly of water and important substances found in blood plasma such as fibrinogen. Fibrinogen is a protein that can be converted to fibrin by the action of thrombin which is found to be essential in blood clotting and serum albumin which helps to regulate the osmotic pressure of plasma.

As the blood flows, the blood balance becomes altered. The plasma, serum and electrolytes especially sodium seeps into the subcutaneous tissue further preventing functioning. This can cause pain because of pressure on the nerve endings and can reduce skin’s elasticity.

It has been said that human’s blood plasma is very similar to ocean water that we evolved originally from the sea. Seawater has been used for a long time as a natural remedy for sore throats, digestive problems, arthritis and joint ailments. Seaweeds on the other hand is an incredible valuable source for effective face and body treatment which is part of the greater family of life giving substances known as algae.

In the field of esthetics and beauty treatments, algae may be used to help stimulate body’s metabolism and circulation because of its high mineral content. The various mineral properties may soften and cleanse the skin while helping to disrupt the fat cells by breaking chemical bonds and allowing trapped waste materials to be released into the lymph system for subsequent removal. The increase of circulation facilitates the absorption of nutrients into the system which leads to eliminating some toxins and wastes. Be healthy, feel and look young and beautiful – know some effective beauty treatment effects in your body and choose what’s best and affordable for you!

Cellulites, what are they?

Cellulites are the unattractive and undesirable very sticky glob of waste that clings to fat cells. Cellulites are mostly associated with weight gain or low fitness levels. Everyone has a specific number of fat cells. An overweight person may not have more fat cells but larger ones. Take note that if you lose weight, those cells simply get smaller. You don’t get rid of them. The reason your body stores cellulites is because you are not eliminating them. You are storing excess weight above your hips, in your arms, breast, hips and torso. Cellulite is not curable nor is the treatment a part of a weight loss program. You should concentrate on eliminating toxin by drinking a lot of water, drag yourself to be physically active like exercise, eat foods with high fiber content and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. A dry massage or scrub 2-3 times a week may help stimulate the body’s circulation and metabolism to eliminate toxins and wastes.
