White spots?

White spots on skin are often cause by fungal infection brought about by using bath towels more than once. It is best to always use fresh towels each time you take a shower or a bath. But if you do have the white spots on your skin now then I think you should try what I’ve stumbled in my research.

Lather your back and your chest or the area of the white spot with an antidandruff shampoo until they are gone. One that was often mentioned in several articles was Selsun Blue. An athlete’s foot crème may be effective for some while tea tree oil is favored by the majority. Whatever treatment you plan to take is welcome but remember never to reuse used towels again or it will come back.

Perfect body

Say hello to a perfect healthy body and say goodbye to chronic diseases the easy way – diet and nutrition!

Diet and nutrition are critical to the promotion and maintenance of good health throughout your entire life course. The burden of chronic diseases is rapidly increasing globally as such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, osteoporosis and dental diseases. But let me ask you guys… Are you not aware that chronic diseases are largely preventable diseases?

Yup darlings they are preventable diseases. Modern dietary patterns and physical activity patterns are risk behaviors affecting one population to another and are considered as communicable at the risk factor level. You may have notice that traditional largely plant based diets are being replaced by high fat energy dense diets with a substantial content of animal based foods at fast food counters while physical inactivity proves to be increasingly affecting a lot of people because of technology and a lot of mechanical innovations to promote comfortable living.

Yesireee comfortable living is giving as an edge to win the marathon race to the doors of early onset of chronic diseases. Lifestyles should be managed and balanced in a way that we used much of our strength to strengthen our muscles and stamina and for cardio purposes. And most of all this gives us the perfect body we need when we decide to start sweating it out.

Food strategies could well be spelled in diet and nutrition. It’s repetitive but we always go back there. Food, diet, nutrition, physical inactivity could be improved by eating lots of fruits and vegetables and doing daily exercises.

Food diary for weight loss and nutrition monitoring

Well we do write a diary everyday to express what we feel and write what we think about things and other people. We write it in blogs, published it or plainly keep our thoughts secret with our notebooks or diaries at home.

I say yes to create a food diary. This is what we need in order to monitor our food and calorie intake. We can even organize a kind of forum or blog for this so other people may stumble on your site and leave comments and suggestions on how to manage your diet and your weight.

It is not easy to act like nutrition experts ourselves because it will entail a lot of intensive research. Blogging is the shortcut. By the way please don’t forget to link to my site when you are already up and live. It would be a pleasure to be able to link with your personal food diaries.

Making a combination of your personal thoughts and nutrition guide is acceptable. So start blogging about what you have and let the world help you on it.

Who wants sexy abs?

Leaner, sleeker, sexier, trimmer and tighter tummy are the kind of abs we want to have. And it is great news to be able to tell you that we can work toward a more amazing abs from flab to fab (fabulous!). But at the moment while you are still working on it please don’t wear jeans that are too small or too tight or it will make your belly or abs protrude.

Our goal is to slash your weight then trim your abs. How do we do that?

Makeup, accessories or any other alternative to make your abs appear lighter with a thinner look may do for a while but may not give you that good look and healthy feeling. It would be best to do a real good walk everyday to trim those fats off.

To progressively increase the training stimulus of your abdominal muscles you may want to perform abdominal curls on a decline bench rather than on a flat bench. Weightlifting exercises your muscles at greater than normal workloads. This produces microscopic tears in the muscle cells and connective tissues. Your body responds by producing new muscle proteins and cause muscle growth while increasing strength.

Please take note that there is a need to rest the exercised muscles between workouts for these changes to occur. Substantial improvements are seen to people who lift weights every other day or maybe 2 to 3 times a week. Lifting weights everyday may risk your muscles by overtraining.

A split routine may be created so you won’t be exercising the same muscle groups everyday and to avoid excessive muscle soreness and overuse injuries. You may also opt for calisthenics as a mild form to strength training. If you have a low back pain like an herniated disc injury then avoid the steps where you need to twist and bend. It may be helpful to alter training stimulus weekly or daily to be able to change combination of intensity, repetition and sets.

Designing your weight management and body composition program is never easy. The help of fitness professional is needed to give it the desired workout intensity and nutrition balance your body needs. But to start toning your body you may want to do an hour a day walking and eating lots of fruits and vegetables.

Banana and its beauty and health value

Bananas have been used by ancient Egyptians for wound dressing in the past. The banana leaves, fruit and the flowering sheath are being utilized effectively as medical treatment for open wounds.

Here’s how they biblically do it in the past:

They first mashed the fruit before applying it as a poultice over rashes, infected scratches, grazes and burns. A banana skin or a banana leaf warmed in hot water is then placed over the affected area to cover and contain the mashed fruit.

The banana still serves more or less the same function with today’s generation. Surfers often used mashed banana pulp to treat sunburned shoulders and noses. Cool….

Aching heels, corns and blisters may be rubbed by the inside of a banana skin. The flowering bract may be used as a heel guard too to ease cracks in the heels of hikers.

And good heavens, here’s another surprise… the flowering bracts may be used to treat scalp problems!

Boil the flowering bracts with few ripe banana skins and use it as a hair rinse for oily and falling hair problems.

Need proof? Look at the Hawaiians glossy thick hair!

Herniated disc pain management

The use of ice may help reduce lumbar pain and muscle spasm at the moment. Painful muscle spasms can be eliminated with ice or heat. Significant signs indicating the need for immediate referral to a physical therapist include muscle weakness, sensory changes, diminish reflexes in the lower extremity and abnormal bladder or bowel function. Minimized load on the spine by avoiding activities that involve impact, lifting, bending, twisting and prolonged sitting and standing. It is important that you take muscle relaxants, passive exercise and gentle stretching. Most of all please loose a little of those fats and maintain your ideal body weight. This is what I’ve been telling about diet, nutrition and exercise. There are more benefits you gain from it than reasons for taking it for granted and actually neglecting it. Anybody wanting to be my exercise buddy lol just email me…..

Understanding disc injuries

Prolonged mechanical loading of the spine often times leads to annulus fibrosis microruptures. This results to disc degeneration where the extruded disc moves into the spinal canal and impinge on the adjacent nerve roots. Symptoms felt are sharp pain and muscle spasms at the site of the herniation. The sensation occurs only until such time the surrounding soft tissues are impinged.

The numbness may shoot down the sciatic nerve into the lower extremity. This inflammatory condition may also be associated with sciatica which is commonly caused by a herniated disc. You may notice that if you have sciatica, the resulting radiating leg pain may sometimes be greater than your low back pain.

The pain increases with prolonged sitting and leaning forward, coughing, sneezing and straining. This may make any person suffering from sciatica to walk in a slightly crouched position like it tends to lean away from the side of the lesion. The pain actually radiates down the distribution of the involved nerve root.

Herniated cervical and lumbar discs or slip discs

Herniated disc is inappropriately and commonly called as slipped disc by a lot of people but known as ruptured disc in the sports writer’s world. This is likely to be symptomatic because of the proximity of the spinal nerve roots. The pain is usually acute from the pressure on the longitudinal ligaments and local inflammation. Chronic pain results from the compression of the spinal nerve roots by the herniated disc.

The most common is the lumbago acute middle and low back pain. Approximately 95% of lumbar disc protrusions occur at L4-L5 or L5S1 levels. Muscle spasm and tense or increasingly cramped lumbar region are associated with the low back pain a patient feels. Further ischemia may occur and cause painful movements.

This may be gradually replaced by sciatica which is a pain in the lower back and hip that radiates down the back of the thigh into the leg. L5 or S1 are components of the sciatic nerve causing shooting pain down the lower limbs. Back muscles go into spasm as a response to inflammation of back structures. Spasms are sudden involuntary contraction of one or more muscle groups attended by cramps and pain producing involuntary movement and distortion.

Only the removal of the extruded part of the disc or the free fragment is seen to be the most possible relief to the pain intensity one’s feel. However risks of surgery may be localized as dural tear, wrong level exploration, hemorrhage, infection and nerve deficit. This is the very reason I did not undergo surgery besides the high medical cost that I am going to injure. After my neck operation of lymphangioma I noticed some changes in me. I doubt if I undergo back operation I would still be the same. As much as possible we deny the knife if we can still make it. We just don’t know what we are going to lose during the operation.

Promising cancer cure and genetic changes

Researchers were able to tracked 30 men suffering from low risk prostrate cancer who did not submit to conventional medical treatments like surgery, radiation or hormone therapy. The men were quite firm on their decision to make a major lifestyle change instead of submitting to conventional medical treatments. What they did was performed at least 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise like walking including meditation. Meditation has greatly helped them to manage their stress levels. Their diet was also composed of more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and soy products.

As expected they were successful in losing weight and had managed to lower their blood pressure for the past three months. The most intriguing find is the increased in their activity of disease preventing genes and the decrease or shut down of a number of their disease promoting genes.

I am happy to tell you guys that exercise is the cheapest and the most effective cancer preventing activity you can count on. Why not make this a healthy habit then? Find an exercise buddy and get on with your lifestyle change.

Refresh

We had a storm for two days and there was no electricity and water. This means I couldn’t work with my computer, no blogging and no research. God I felt so bored! I can feel my chronic back pain more just by lying at my bed with nothing to do. I over slept until I find it impossible to sleep anymore so at 4am dawn I was up and walking in my treadmill.

I discovered I cannot go more than 6 hours of sleep otherwise I’ll get lazy and tired. I miss my music and my writing too. Oh dear most of all I miss my early morning walk. But who dares walk on the street in the middle of a storm? And this is life without technology. This is life like you are too far in the world and living in the mountains – no computer, no internet, no TV, no electricity. My God…. This is torture!

Maybe I can live without a man or social life but I can’t live without my music, my blogs and my research. And funny how I can do all the work and be tired at the end of the day and just refresh myself by hearing the sound of water in my bathroom while taking my bath. The sound of the water is so refreshing. Feel like I need a good swim from a natural waterfall.

I got totally energized and refresh after two days of being out of nowhere in the middle of a storm. When the electric current went back, the first thing that I did was listened to my music while I read my emails and write my blogs. Music can do you good. And it is true, the thing that I have always been telling you before in my other blog that the best thing to counter chronic low back pain or any other pain is preoccupation. Get yourself preoccupied and you will less likely feel the pain rather than doing nothing.

My back felt worse for the two days that I have nothing to do and just lying around in bed. Of course I was afraid with the strong winds and the heavy rain. I can still hear the sound of my neighbor’s roof like it is going to get torn apart. I hate to see flying roofs so I closed my windows and just lie down staring at my ceiling. That was very unproductive but what can you do in the middle of a storm.

Now I am contented with my new LCD monitor making research listening to my music. It feels good to the eyes than the previous monitor. And the music keeps me humming too. I love technology. It surely makes me preoccupied and focus on other things other than my low back pain.

Boundaries and limitations

It’s true that boundaries in life aren’t meant to restrict us. They are there to help us stay balance in life. Let’s say my limitation is not to sit for long hours in front of my computer because it will naturally hurt my back more. I have a herniated disc and it could be very painful like you can’t sleep at night.

But then limitations must be consistent with your needs. For myself there are bills that need to be paid every month end so I distribute my work hours and work to my maximum limitations. This means testing my back to the maximum time I can contain with prolonged sitting.

Trying to cope up with my simple budget economics made me fill in work on every available time that I have. If I don’t have commitments then I simply write my blogs with the hope that I could earn from Adsense and the other ads published there. Lately I observed that I am wheezing a little. It’s been three days now that I observed I am likely to have my asthma attack again.

I understand I need to get back to my early morning walk. Do you ever get the feeling that you could just run freely with the fresh morning air and just hope that you won’t ever get back to where you once before? I always have that feeling. My limitation is that I can’t fly to where I can find peace and comfort in life. It takes a lot of dollars to fly to where you needed to be. In short we all need to take time off and recharge, refresh, rejuvenate or whatever combat stress related term you may call it.

Boundaries in life could be a major appreciation or a major frustration. In any way that you can make it work out for you, please do. We all need to be consistent with our physical activities or we will be treading downward with health and the recourse would be our bodies. Limits are limits, no matter what we do to earn, we will always end up spending what we earn to keep up with our health. What I mean is, there is not much meaning working hard to earn when we just end up spending it to be able to survive what we have done to our health in order to earn.

Darkened armpits

The harmful chemicals your deodorants contain as such as alcohol may cause your underarms to darken. Your skin reacts from the alcohol and causes discoloration of your armpits. Microabrasions caused by shaving or plucking is also one big issue to note. This practice sometimes even causes the appearance of ugly chicken skin on your darkened armpits. Ouch it feels like being murdered twice… darkened armpits and chicken skins!

Most dermatologists recommend peeling before bleaching darkened armpits. But the most common, effective and less expensive treatment our grandmothers and mothers would advise is to cut a lemon crosswise and then rub it straight on your armpits after your bath. Please don’t forget to remove the seeds for it might hurt your skin while doing the rub. Then put on powdered alum afterwards which may serve as your deodorant too. Laser hair removal could be a good option to help eliminate shaving but is costly. Try doing the lemon and alum rub first before spending money on anything.

Understanding dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is the controlled scraping of the top layers of the skin to remove scars from acne or accidents. This will tend to smooth out fine facial wrinkles such as those that we usually see around the mouth. Local anesthesia and a sedative are usually used during the procedure.

It involves the use of a high speed hand held rotary instrument with a rough wire brush or diamond impregnated burr. Afterwards the skin is treated with ointment, a wet dressing, a dry treatment or some combination. There is redness and swelling as well as some pain, tingling, burning or itching which can be controlled by medication. The side effects usually subside within a few days from treatment. Mechanical dermabrasion with either a diamond fraise or a wire brush is an effective tool in correction of deeper skin abnormalities like acne scarring.

Understanding plasma

Blood is a slightly sticky fluid that is composed of 55% plasma and 45% blood cells. Plasma is a yellow transparent fluid made of mostly water that contains small amounts of protein. Blood itself does not flow into the tissues but remains inside the blood vessels. Certain parts of the blood permeate through the capillary walls and into the tissue spaces. This interstitial fluid enters the lymphatic vessels called lymph. It consists mainly of water and important substances found in blood plasma such as fibrinogen. Fibrinogen is a protein that can be converted to fibrin by the action of thrombin which is found to be essential in blood clotting and serum albumin which helps to regulate the osmotic pressure of plasma.

As the blood flows, the blood balance becomes altered. The plasma, serum and electrolytes especially sodium seeps into the subcutaneous tissue further preventing functioning. This can cause pain because of pressure on the nerve endings and can reduce skin’s elasticity.

It has been said that human’s blood plasma is very similar to ocean water that we evolved originally from the sea. Seawater has been used for a long time as a natural remedy for sore throats, digestive problems, arthritis and joint ailments. Seaweeds on the other hand is an incredible valuable source for effective face and body treatment which is part of the greater family of life giving substances known as algae.

In the field of esthetics and beauty treatments, algae may be used to help stimulate body’s metabolism and circulation because of its high mineral content. The various mineral properties may soften and cleanse the skin while helping to disrupt the fat cells by breaking chemical bonds and allowing trapped waste materials to be released into the lymph system for subsequent removal. The increase of circulation facilitates the absorption of nutrients into the system which leads to eliminating some toxins and wastes. Be healthy, feel and look young and beautiful – know some effective beauty treatment effects in your body and choose what’s best and affordable for you!

Cellulites, what are they?

Cellulites are the unattractive and undesirable very sticky glob of waste that clings to fat cells. Cellulites are mostly associated with weight gain or low fitness levels. Everyone has a specific number of fat cells. An overweight person may not have more fat cells but larger ones. Take note that if you lose weight, those cells simply get smaller. You don’t get rid of them. The reason your body stores cellulites is because you are not eliminating them. You are storing excess weight above your hips, in your arms, breast, hips and torso. Cellulite is not curable nor is the treatment a part of a weight loss program. You should concentrate on eliminating toxin by drinking a lot of water, drag yourself to be physically active like exercise, eat foods with high fiber content and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. A dry massage or scrub 2-3 times a week may help stimulate the body’s circulation and metabolism to eliminate toxins and wastes.

Plasma beauty skin treatments

Multiple low energy plasma skin treatments minimize wrinkles in the face. Facial appearance and wrinkles may be reduced using plasma skin regeneration tool. Energy from plasma is emitted in millisecond long pulses to target skin tissues. It has been used as high energy single treatments for acne scarring or wrinkle reductions. The treatment requires a week or more time for healing.

This skin regeneration process is a completely new plasma energy technology that works on and below the surface of the skin to modify the skin’s architecture to generate new collagen. The transfer of plasma energy to the treated area is done without direct contact to the skin. The skin’s outer layers are being preserved until new skin regenerates. This is effective in reducing fine lines and deep wrinkles, treating sun damaged skin, improving acne scars and tightening of skin.

Forget undergoing knife surgeries. Say hello to a nonsurgical cosmetic treatment – plasma!

Revitalize your appearance by simple skin rejuvenation naturally restoring youthful appearance stimulating your body’s natural rejuvenation process. Combat the visible signs of aging by stimulating natural collagen production under the surface of your skin. Plastic skin regeneration is the latest technique which continuously shows improvements for as long as a year after treatment.

Leeches, plasma and snake venom for beauty treatments, anyone?

Leech sucks! These are the ones most people heard about – leeches suck blood of people and animals. There are at least 650 species of leeches living all over the world usually thriving in places that are wet or damp. Leeches have a smaller sucker on its front end where its mouth is located and another larger sucker on its back end which helps hold on to surfaces like soil, rocks or animals.

Leeches are popular in prehistoric times to help treat some form of pain. The world’s first anticoagulant hirudin was discovered in the salivary gland of the medicinal leech Hirudo Medicinalis. This made scientist think that the leech is a living pharmacopeia that holds considerable promise in medical biotechnology.

Plastic and microvascular surgeons have been utilizing the ability of this medicinal worm to inject anticoagulants and remove blood. The use of leeches has been reported as an adjunct for grafted skin flaps and breast reconstruction. Removal of accumulated blood seems to be a task where the leech is well settled including their utility in the reattachment of severed digits. The leech is applied to the sutured lines of reimplanted digits in an attempt to reduce venous congestion following surgery where venous returns may be impaired.

The anticoagulants in its saliva cause the bites to bleed for many hours after the leech was detached. Systemic utilization of the leech salivary gland has been reported to prevent some pathological changes of diffuse intravascular coagulation (DIC). Leeches have been recently used in the evacuation of periorbital hematomas, used in treatment of hemorrhoids and varicose veins, prevents consumption of clotting factors and development of multiple microthombi and inhibition of localized hemorrhagic necrosis.

What really entice me to write about leeches is the phrase I’ve stumbled in on one of my research which is about its association to interfere on the metastatic growth of some lung tumors and its efficacy of a fibrinase on atherosclerotic plagues which is still under investigation. However the popularity curve of the leech has been as undulating as the manner in which it swims because its use has its own shortcomings also. Apparently clinicians do not recommend cross application of leeches because of the potential hazard for infection and its ability to harbor certain viruses for extended periods.

Leeches has become one of modern medicine's effective tools to restore blood flow as such as re-attached ears, fingers and toes. When placed on a finger or toe, the germ free leech attaches and begins sucking. The patient feels nothing but oxygen rich blood instantly begins to flow bringing the body part back to life again. Leeches, no matter how weird and yuk it may be, has its own vital medical use.

Cancer vaccine

Scientist may be a step closer to producing a specific targeted vaccine which could kill cancer cells. They were talking about designing a vaccine that has the ability to home in on proteins and has the capacity to deliver a message to the immune system. This will trigger the immune system to start attacking the invading cancer cells. UK researchers have identified a protein on the immune cells that may harness the body’s defenses to attack a tumor. The protein is unique to only one type of immune cell in the body which is called dendritic cell. Dendritic cell is responsible for triggering the body’s defense system.

The idea is to introduce a foreign molecule from a cancer cell to target dendritic cells. This will then cause the immune system to attack the invading cancer. The same concept could be applied to treatment for diseases HIV or malaria. The vaccines work by triggering an army of immune cells to attack potentially dangerous foreign molecules wherein dendritic cells tend to act as messengers that tells T cells which ones to attack. The research is still ongoing but is very promising indeed.

What you lose when you try to lose fats the wrong way

Eating behavior particularly diets that omit or severely restrict whole categories of foods can have serious negative impacts on micronutrient status. Diets that eliminate all animal foods provide almost no Vitamin B12 and have also been associated with cases of crickets (Vitamin D deficiency) and other vitamin deficiencies. Skipping meals and dieting to lose weight frequently compromise micronutrient intake. In general it is extremely difficult to meet all of the requirements for micronutrients at intakes of less than 1200 calories per day.

So we thought that we gain an edge when we lose the fats. Well it will take us to another problem if we start dieting without proper medical consultation. Knowing what your body needs and how to plan your meals correctly are very important. You will never go healthy without proper nutrition intake.

Understanding Epilepsy

Anxiety is an emotional uneasiness associated with the anticipation of loss or danger. Unrecognized anxiety symptoms may lead to further suffering of the patient and his family. Children and adolescents with epilepsy may in particular be prone to anxiety. The unpredictability of seizures and the stigma associated with epilepsy may predispose children and adolescents to anxiety and negative affective responses.

Partial seizures that arise from structural abnormality in the brain may be described as symptomatic epilepsy. Common causes of epilepsy may be inherited, congenital malformations present at birth, undetected brain tumors, acquired metabolic diseases like low blood glucose concentration or low serum calcium, chronic renal failure and certain infectious diseases like bacterial meningitis or encephalitis.

The most common form used to determine epilepsy is EEG or electroencephalography. There may be a gap of some years between the first seizure and the diagnosis of epilepsy. Most patients who developed epilepsy were treated. There are epileptic conditions that may take a well circumscribed short lived course. This implies that treatment might be curative among some individuals.

However seizures may acquire a more regular circadian rhythm during the illness and appear preferentially during sleep. Another peculiar form of partial epilepsy has been determined by which seizures appear almost exclusively during sleep. This is what we call as nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy (NFLE).

NFLE seizures are characterized by complex motor and behavioral activity consisting of cycling or kicking activity of all four limbs or rocking of the trunk. Sometimes this is manifested by semi-purposeful repetitive movements mimicking sexual or defensive activity. The patient may vocalize, scream or swear during the occurrence of the seizure. The violent behavior most of the time may cause the patient to fall out of bed or physically hurt self. Then the patient just normally goes back to sleep again. Sleep may facilitate epileptic seizures in some forms of epilepsy.

When you see the signs especially during sleep you need not be afraid that it is some kind of spiritual or suspect of bad experience or something. Just bring your loved one to the doctor for an appropriate diagnosis. Early intervention is preferred for this type of illness.
